Commodity Taxes
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies directly or indirectly to every taxpayer in Canada. The GST is, in theory, a simple tax if you are a registrant involved in the provision of taxable supplies. However, in practice, the GST can be rather complex. The complexity of the legislation can lead to unpleasant surprises for taxpayers that are either unaware, out of date or have not taken their compliance responsibilities seriously.

Ontario companies can have QST or HST issues if depending upon their activities in Quebec or the maritime provinces - and those issues can result in substantial non-recoverable taxes payable if not properly addressed.

In addition, consider the example of a corporate director of a now bankrupt corporation who will face a personal assessment for GST funds not remitted during his tenure.

Business can often avoid problems by planning adequately. We have the expertise to help with any GST or retail sales tax problems you may encounter. Please feel free to contact us.
